Following graduation from law school, Brenda came to Colorado Springs where she associated with a local firm doing primarily construction and real estate litigation, defending title, boundary and adverse possession claims. She returned to Nebraska for several years and was in association with the firm of Douglas, Kelly, Ostdiek, Bartels & Neilan, and tried cases throughout the Panhandle with a focus on family law, and custody disputes.

Brenda returned to Colorado Springs in 2008, and joined Hanes & Schutz, LLC, the predecessor of Hanes & Bartels, where she is active in real estate, business and commercial litigation in both state and federal courts.

Brenda resides in Colorado Springs with her menagerie of animals, and enjoys traveling, wine-making, and hikes on the many area trails, with occasional trips to Boulder to visit her daughter, Emma, a business student at Colorado University.
